District Pinewood Derby

Saturday morning we drove to Marble Falls so Colten could compete in the district Pinewood Derby for Boy Scouts. He was nervous about it and almost didn't want to go, but we convinced him that it was a good idea to go and it didn't matter if he won or lost, he got to go to district! When we got there, everyone was so nice. His car only weighed 4.4 oz and it could be up to 5, so we had people helping us find ways to add weight to it. We managed to get it right at 5 oz just in time for the race to start. There were about 30 cars competing and they had a double elimination bracket, so you had to lose 2 times before you were done. Colten's first race came up pretty quick, and he lost. He was pretty disappointed and we thought probably we would be done pretty quick. However, he won his way out of the loser bracket and made it to the top 10-12 cars! He was pretty excited. I think he ended up racing about 8 times before he lost the second time. We found out at the end that his first race ended up being against the 2nd place car overall.. no wonder he lost!

Here he is with his car before the race:

Here he is setting up for one of the races:

Also, Friday night, the boy scouts had their blue and gold banquet where Colten got the "Most Difficult To Make" award for his car. Here he is with his award and new patches:

This week we'll be getting ready for the annual Easter BBQ and sunrise service Easter morning at the ranch. I took off Wed-Fri to help John work in the yard and get everything looking nice. We're hoping for nice weather, but if it rains, we'll welcome that as well! Happy Easter!
